America’s Got Talent Season 21 Quarterfinals 1 brought eleven acts back to the stage for the first Live Show of the season, with singers, comedians, dancers, magicians, mentalists, a choir, a tumbling team, and a dog act competing for America’s votes.
The night’s defining moment belonged to Hundred Fingers. Their rapid-fire magic routine kept building until Howie Mandel reached for the first Live Golden Buzzer of Season 21, sending the group directly to the Finals.
When the voting results were revealed, Luke Taleno, Olivia Befus, and Royal Lasers joined the group of advancing acts by earning places in the Semifinals. Ashford Sanders, Brook Lynn, Cris Sosa, James & Marina, Jesse White Tumbling Team, Sando, and The CommUNITY ATL were eliminated.

Golden Buzzer – Howie Mandel
Hundred Fingers filled the stage with a barrage of visual magic, building the routine so quickly that individual effects seemed to disappear almost as soon as they registered. Cards, props, and synchronized sleight of hand kept moving while the audience reaction grew louder with each reveal.
Then Howie Mandel hit the Live Golden Buzzer. Terry Crews announced that Hundred Fingers were going straight to the Finals as gold fell across the stage.
Howie’s explanation was brief: it was the best thing he had seen, and the single word he used to describe it was “magic.” The Golden Buzzer removed Hundred Fingers from the public vote and gave them a direct place in the Season 21 Finals.
Best Performances
Royal Lasers
Royal Lasers returned to the Live Shows with another carefully synchronized combination of dance, lighting, and visual effects. The trio moved through glowing stage elements before saving one of the largest visual moments for the end of the routine.
Simon Cowell said the act had evolved far beyond the kind of variety performances AGT featured when the series began. Mel B could imagine taking her children to see the act live, while Sofía Vergara felt the Quarterfinal performance was stronger than the audition.
Terry Crews watched his Golden Buzzer act from the side of the stage like a proud parent, then asked if the group could possibly top what they had just done. Royal Lasers said they could, and America’s vote ultimately gave them the opportunity.
Jesse White Tumbling Team
The Jesse White Tumbling Team attacked the Live Show at a noticeably faster pace than their audition. Tumblers flew one after another across the stage, increasing the height and speed until the final passes had the judges reacting to each landing.
Simon said the Live Show performance was better than their audition. Mel B described watching them as a constant series of nervous reactions because the tricks looked terrifying even though the team remained precise and controlled.
Howie emphasized the speed, height, and accuracy of the tumbling and urged viewers at home to recognize just how high the performers were traveling. Despite the strong response, the team did not receive enough votes to move forward.
Brook Lynn
Brook Lynn took one of the night’s biggest creative risks by singing an original song instead of returning to another cover. The performance began quietly as she sang about internal struggles, scars, and learning to love herself before the arrangement expanded around her voice.
Sofía praised the confidence Brook Lynn showed compared with her nervous callback performance. Mel B said the original song connected with her, while Howie tied the lyrics to mental health and described Brook Lynn as someone who continued to improve every time she appeared.
Simon also praised the decision to perform original material when a cover would have been safer. The performance marked a clear step forward artistically, even though Brook Lynn was eliminated in the public vote.
Cris Sosa
Cris Sosa turned his family into the center of his Quarterfinal comedy set. With his divorced parents sitting separately in the audience, he described listening to them argue in Spanish as a child before shifting into stories about his father’s almost absurd level of confidence.
The set built into a story about Cris learning to box, meeting an eight-year-old opponent nicknamed “the Shark,” and discovering that his own “killer dolphin” persona was not enough to save him from a body shot. He ended the sequence by joking that he would start working at FedEx the following week, following in his father’s footsteps.
Howie praised Cris’s physicality, sound effects, likability, and memorable personality. Sofía called him a complete showman, while Simon said the room loved him and felt the Quarterfinal set was better than the audition. Cris nevertheless fell short in America’s vote.
Olivia Befus
Olivia Befus entered the Live Shows with multiple dogs and expanded her routine again. The dogs moved through a series of coordinated tricks while Olivia remained part of the presentation instead of simply directing them from the side.
Mel B emphasized how much fun the dogs appeared to be having and how difficult it was for an 18-year-old trainer to prepare that many separate behaviors. Howie said Olivia had stepped up the act every time she appeared on AGT.
Simon went further, saying the dog act worked because Olivia herself was entertaining as well. He predicted she could win the public vote, and viewers ultimately sent Olivia to the Semifinals.
Luke Taleno
Luke Taleno used an original rap to retrace the experiences that brought him to the AGT stage. He rapped about his mother working while fighting cancer, his own time in a hospital, financial pressure, depression, grief, family, and the need to keep fighting.
The lyrics kept returning to the same command—fight for family, dreams, respect, freedom, and the right to exist—while Luke’s son watched from the audience knowing every word.
Simon called it a major step up from Luke’s audition. Sofía praised how personal the writing felt, and Howie said the performance deserved a Golden Buzzer even though he no longer had one available. America’s vote kept Luke’s run alive and sent him to the Semifinals.
Biggest Surprises
James & Marina Lose the Judges During a Huge Final Reveal
James & Marina began their mentalism routine by sending a stuffed bear through the audience to randomly select participants. Marina identified zodiac signs, a birthday, and memories connected to a childhood pet before the act narrowed toward one final prediction.
Four canvases were mixed and distributed to the judges. Three were blank. Mel B’s canvas contained a painting recreating the exact scene that had developed onstage, including the randomly selected audience member beside her.
The ending produced a huge reaction, but the route to the reveal divided the panel. Howie said the presentation had become too long, Sofía preferred their previous performance, and Simon agreed that the pacing caused the act to lose him before the strong finish. Mel B strongly disagreed and called the routine incredible. America’s vote ultimately eliminated the duo.
Ashford Sanders Gets Mixed Feedback on Song Choice
Ashford Sanders delivered another emotional vocal performance, but the judges spent much of their feedback debating whether the song allowed him to create the kind of defining Live Show moment he needed.
Howie preferred another version of the song and said the performance was not Live Golden Buzzer level. Sofía felt Ashford overcame a nervous beginning and eventually made the song his own, while Simon praised the voice but criticized the backing track and wished Ashford had reinterpreted something more dramatically.
The disagreement reflected how narrow the margin had become in the Quarterfinals. Ashford’s voice remained admired across the panel, but he was eliminated in America’s vote.
Sando Splits the Judges
Sando expanded his viral movement concept with additional dancers and a larger stage presentation. Simon immediately stood and called it the best act of the night at that point, predicting the performance would generate enormous online views.
Mel B still did not connect with the central movement style despite appreciating the added dancers. Sofía understood the viral appeal and praised Sando for turning a short visual trick into something that could hold the AGT stage.
The act generated one of the night’s strongest judge debates but did not receive enough public votes to advance.
Acts Advancing to the Semifinals
By the results show, three acts had earned their places in the Semifinals through America’s vote: Luke Taleno, Olivia Befus, and Royal Lasers. Each reached the next round through a different route—personal original music, a growing dog act, and a large-scale visual dance production.
Hundred Fingers did not need to wait for voting results. Howie Mandel’s Live Golden Buzzer moved the magic group past the Semifinals and directly into the Season 21 Finals.
What This Means for Season 21
The first Quarterfinal immediately changed the stakes of Season 21. The judges could still influence the competition through a Live Golden Buzzer, but nearly every other act now depended on viewers at home.
That difference was visible throughout the results. Several performers received enthusiastic judge feedback and still went home, including Jesse White Tumbling Team, Cris Sosa, Brook Lynn, Ashford Sanders, and The CommUNITY ATL.
The Live Golden Buzzer also creates a second path through the competition. Hundred Fingers skipped the Semifinals entirely, while Luke Taleno, Olivia Befus, and Royal Lasers must perform again before they can reach the Finals.
Variety Spotlight
Quarterfinals 1 moved rapidly between mentalism, choir music, light-based dance, tumbling, original singing, soul vocals, stand-up comedy, dog tricks, viral dance, bilingual rap, and large-scale magic.
The contrast between acts was especially clear in the Live Show setting. Royal Lasers filled the stage with technology and synchronized visuals, Jesse White Tumbling Team relied on speed and height, Cris Sosa needed only a microphone and family stories, and Olivia Befus created movement through the relationship between trainer and dogs.
Booking Takeaways
Quarterfinals 1 featured mentalism, choir music, light-based dance, tumbling, original singers, stand-up comedy, trained dogs, specialty dance, rap, and large-scale magic.
The performances showed how differently those categories create live impact: Royal Lasers used lighting and movement to fill the stage, Jesse White Tumbling Team generated suspense through height and speed, Cris Sosa created laughs through storytelling and physical comedy, and Olivia Befus used multiple dogs to build a visual act that remained easy for the audience to follow.
