America’s Got Talent Season 21 Quarterfinals 2 put eleven more acts on the live stage, but Nene Royal changed the night before America’s Vote could decide her future. The teenage rocker tore into “Black Hole Sun” with her electric guitar, drawing a huge reaction from the room before Mel B reached for the Live Golden Buzzer.
When the results were revealed, Veronika Goroshkova, Come Here, and Geno Ploeger joined Nene as the four acts moving forward from the second Quarterfinal. LaRussell, Béty, Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm, Patrox, Mackenzie Sol, Brad & Tracy, and Butter & Grit were eliminated.
The results also reinforced how unforgiving the Live Shows had become. Several acts received strong reactions from the judges, including Butter & Grit and Mackenzie Sol, but only three public-vote positions remained after Mel B used her Golden Buzzer.

Golden Buzzer – Mel B
Nene Royal walked onto the live stage with her electric guitar and transformed “Black Hole Sun” into a showcase for both her voice and playing. The performance moved from controlled verses into heavier guitar-driven sections, with the crowd growing louder as Nene pushed into the song’s biggest vocal moments.
Howie Mandel was already on his feet when the music stopped. Sofía Vergara told Nene she could win the competition, pointing to the combination of her singing, guitar playing, and unmistakable rock-star look.
Mel B initially reminded everyone that rock was not normally her preferred style of music. Then she ran through everything Nene had just delivered: the vocals, guitar, look, energy, and overall vibe. Her conclusion came at the Golden Buzzer, sending gold across the stage and automatically moving Nene forward in the competition.
Best Performances
Mackenzie Sol
Mackenzie Sol had the difficult task of following Nene Royal’s Golden Buzzer moment, but he settled into “You Broke Me First” and kept the focus on the vocal. The arrangement gave him room to move from restrained verses into the larger emotional phrases of the chorus.
Mel B called the performance “everything,” praising the feeling and vocals. Sofía Vergara said she loved his energy and voice, while Howie repeatedly told viewers that he hoped they would vote for him.
Howie also acknowledged the obvious problem with the running order: Mackenzie had to perform immediately after one of the biggest moments of the night. He nevertheless felt Mackenzie rose to the occasion. America’s Vote ultimately eliminated him.
Come Here
Come Here filled the stage with a contemporary dance routine built around synchronized movement rather than a succession of acrobatic tricks. The dancers moved as a single unit, shifting formations while keeping the choreography fluid across the live stage.
Howie praised the blend of contemporary dance and ballet and singled out the choreography. Sofía called the routine breathtaking and compared the group’s precision to Mayyas, her former Golden Buzzer act that went on to win AGT.
Mel B emphasized the dedication required to make the synchronization look so controlled. The response carried into the results show, when Come Here claimed one of the three available Semifinal positions from America’s Vote.
Geno Ploeger
Geno Ploeger built his Quarterfinal magic routine around the person who introduced him to magic: his grandfather, who was sitting in the audience. He began by letting the judges randomly select ordinary objects associated with the magic he learned growing up.
The routine kept returning to those objects. Sofía’s ring vanished and reappeared, Mel B selected a five of hearts and marked it with a sticker before the rest of the deck disappeared from between her hands, and Geno revealed predictions tied to the judges’ choices.
The final ring reveal brought the story back to his grandfather. After Sofía’s ring vanished again, Geno reminded everyone that his grandfather’s ring tricks always ended with the ring returning to his finger. His grandfather raised his hand with Sofía’s ring on it, triggering a standing ovation.
Sofía praised the routine as original and personal. Howie specifically noted that Geno had taken the audition feedback and returned with something that felt like his own magic rather than an imitation of another performer. America’s Vote sent Geno to the Semifinals.
Butter & Grit
Butter & Grit closed the performance show with another original song, this time built around offering hope, faith, love, strength, and “grit” to someone who needed it. The duo traded and blended vocals while the repeated refrain turned the song into an easy audience hook.
Mel B stood for the performance and praised both the vocals and the friendship between the two performers. Sofía said their original songs already felt like established hits, while Howie predicted the new song could become another earworm.
The judges’ reaction made the result one of the tougher eliminations of the night. Despite closing the show with enthusiastic feedback, Butter & Grit did not receive enough votes to advance.
Veronika Goroshkova
Veronika Goroshkova returned to the aerial pole that earned Sofía Vergara’s Golden Buzzer during the auditions and once again climbed high above the stage without a safety net.
The routine mixed rotation, strength, flexibility, and controlled movement while Veronika made the danger look almost effortless. Sofía said the Quarterfinal performance had the same perfection as the audition but saw more confidence this time.
Howie described Veronika as an aerialist, dancer, athlete, and contortionist all at once. Mel B focused on the risk, pointing out that Veronika was performing without being attached to anything. America agreed with the judges’ reaction and gave Veronika the first public-vote Semifinal spot announced during the results show.
Biggest Surprises
Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm Get a Buzz From Mel B
Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm brought their harmonies to the live stage with “I Swear,” but the performance exposed the pressure of the Quarterfinals. The brothers remained together vocally, yet the judges could hear the nerves underneath the performance.
Howie said they could sing and harmonize but needed more experience. Mel B went further and hit her red buzzer, telling the duo that at this stage of the competition she needed to feel more hunger and determination.
Sofía softened the criticism, calling them talented and encouraging them to continue working. The public vote ended their Season 21 run.
Béty’s Song Choice Divides the Panel
Béty stepped onto the Live Show stage on her 18th birthday and delivered a controlled vocal performance of “Fire on Fire.” Her voice remained the center of the arrangement as the song built toward its final sustained passages.
Mel B called Béty’s voice “velvet” but thought she had played the Quarterfinal too safely given the size of her vocal range. Sofía saw a star onstage and praised the soul in the performance.
Howie agreed that Béty was one of the season’s strongest singers but felt the song did not show enough of her range. That concern became significant when America’s Vote did not put her through.
Brad & Tracy Turn Their Marriage Into a Danger Act
Brad & Tracy pushed their danger act further by turning painful stunts into a bizarre walk through their relationship. Chainsaws, sharp objects, staples, photographs, and deadpan jokes all became part of a routine that repeatedly made the judges look away.
Howie stood for the act and praised the energy and showmanship. Sofía admitted she could not stop watching even while wondering what their neighbors must think. Mel B caught only parts of the routine and questioned why anyone would want to do these things to themselves.
The mixture of comedy, danger, and genuine discomfort made it one of the night’s hardest performances to ignore, but Brad & Tracy were eliminated in the public vote.
Patrox Makes the Live Stage Go Backwards
Patrox expanded his backward-dance illusion across the much larger Quarterfinal stage. The routine used movement and staging designed to make the action appear reversed, turning the visual trick that defined his earlier appearance into a full-scale production.
Sofía called the concept clever even while admitting she did not completely understand what was happening. Mel B was similarly confused at first, while Howie praised Patrox for taking one unusual trick and making it work across the entire room.
The act remained unlike anything else in the Quarterfinal, but the novelty was not enough to secure one of America’s three available advancement spots.
Acts Advancing to the Semifinals
Veronika Goroshkova, Come Here, and Geno Ploeger earned the three available advancement positions through America’s Vote. Veronika returned with another high-risk aerial performance, Come Here advanced through precision choreography, and Geno turned personal family memories into a magic routine that ended with his grandfather participating in the final reveal.
Nene Royal did not have to wait for the results. Mel B’s Live Golden Buzzer automatically advanced the teenage rocker after her performance of “Black Hole Sun.”
What This Means for Season 21
Two Quarterfinal rounds have now shown how little room exists between a strong performance and elimination. Butter & Grit received enthusiastic praise after closing the show, Mackenzie Sol earned support from across the panel, and Béty was still described as one of the season’s strongest singers. All three went home.
The acts that survived also represent very different forms of live entertainment. Nene Royal brought rock music and guitar, Veronika Goroshkova relied on physical risk, Come Here advanced through choreography, and Geno Ploeger used close-up-style magic and storytelling on a theater-sized stage.
With two Quarterfinal rounds remaining, America’s Vote has now established that positive judge feedback alone will not be enough. Acts have to create a performance memorable enough to survive a field where only a small number can move forward.
Variety Spotlight
Quarterfinals 2 moved from rock guitar and pop vocals to contemporary dance, traditional vocal harmony, close-up-inspired magic, original country music, aerial danger, backward dance, community-driven hip-hop, and a danger act built around physical stunts.
Geno Ploeger showed how an intimate magic premise could be expanded without losing the personal story at its center. Veronika Goroshkova created suspense with height and the absence of a safety net, while Brad & Tracy created an entirely different kind of tension by combining painful-looking stunts with comedy. Come Here demonstrated that a large stage could also be filled through precision and synchronization rather than props or spectacle.
Booking Takeaways
Quarterfinals 2 featured rock music, solo vocals, vocal harmony, contemporary dance, magic, original country music, aerial performance, specialty dance, hip-hop, and a comedy-driven danger act.
The audience reactions showed how differently those categories create impact in a live room: Nene Royal built energy through guitar and vocals, Come Here used synchronized movement to hold a large stage, Geno Ploeger created intimacy through audience-facing magic and storytelling, and Veronika Goroshkova generated suspense through height and physical risk.
