Daniel Alvarez rolled onto the America’s Got Talent Season 21 stage and introduced himself as a Los Angeles comedian who currently drives for Uber while pursuing stand-up. He told the judges that America needed to know who he was and see what he could do.

Once his set began, Daniel immediately turned personal material into sharp comedy. He joked about being shot at a Halloween party while dressed as Spider-Man, applying for jobs he clearly could not do, and finding humor in the everyday realities of using a wheelchair. The judges responded with a standing ovation, strong praise, and four yes votes. Daniel later advanced through Howie Mandel’s Judges’ Callbacks, reached Quarterfinals 3, earned another standing ovation, and advanced to the Season 21 Semifinals through America’s Vote.

Who Is Daniel Alvarez?

Daniel Alvarez is a stand-up comedian from Los Angeles. During his America’s Got Talent audition, he told the judges that he currently drives Uber, but stand-up comedy is his dream.

Daniel’s comedy draws directly from his own life. He uses personal experiences, including his spinal injury and the situations he encounters as a wheelchair user, to create material that is direct, surprising, and built around strong punchlines rather than sentimentality.

Daniel Alvarez’s America’s Got Talent Audition

Daniel opened his set by talking about the questions he gets from strangers. He described being in a liquor store when a woman asked about his injury. When he told her he had been shot at a Halloween party, she responded that it sounded spooky. Daniel paused on the absurdity of the exchange before adding that the frightening part was also funny because he had been dressed as Spider-Man.

He kept building on that image, joking that his “Spidey sense” did not go off and that he arrived as Spider-Man but left as Professor X. The joke worked because Daniel did not soften the premise. He took a dark, personal story and kept finding sharper angles inside it, moving from superhero references to self-deprecating wordplay without losing control of the room.

The set then shifted into job-interview material. Daniel said he likes applying for jobs he cannot do just to show up and see what happens. He joked about applying to be a roofer and telling the interviewer to get him on the roof because he would hammer the nails in. He then followed with a rock-climbing instructor joke, telling the audience that all he would need to say is that his situation showed the consequences of getting it wrong.

Daniel closed with jokes about being in a wheelchair for 18 years and still wondering why his shoes get dirty. That led to a sleepwalking bit, imagining someone turning on the light and him falling like a toy when Andy walks into the room. He ended by asking how mad the audience would be if he simply got up and walked out, landing the set on a final unexpected turn.

Why Daniel Alvarez Stood Out

Daniel stood out because he never asked the audience to treat the subject matter gently. He used his injury as the foundation for the set, but the comedy came from the precision of the jokes, the pace of the reveals, and his willingness to keep pushing each premise one step further.

The Halloween party story gave the audition its first big moment because it moved from a serious setup into a visual punchline. The Spider-Man and Professor X references turned the story into something the audience could immediately picture, and Daniel’s calm delivery made the contrast even sharper.

The judges responded to both the humor and the control of the performance. Simon Cowell stood after the set and told Daniel he was hilarious, calling him one of the funniest comedians they had seen that year. Sofía Vergara said she loved him, praised his ability to make fun of himself, and called him inspirational.

Mel B noted that Daniel made people laugh at material they might normally be unsure about laughing at, while Howie Mandel said comedy often comes from something tragic or dark and praised Daniel for finding humor inside that experience.

Daniel returned in Quarterfinals 3 with a stand-up set that used both his own story and the Season 21 competition as material. He joked about being the last comic standing, referenced Lai Noelle’s Golden Buzzer and the popularity of the dog acts, and brought Rubén Roldán Bustos into the routine with a joke about the two of them forming “two and a half legs.”

He then returned to the subject of stand-up itself, recalling his nephew asking how he could do stand-up comedy if he could not stand. Daniel closed by appearing to tease the possibility that he might actually stand up and walk, only to reveal that the moment itself was another joke. The room responded with a standing ovation.

The judges were equally enthusiastic about the live performance. Howie Mandel said Daniel had taken his advice and become slicker and funnier. Sofía Vergara said there was not one joke in the set that was not funny, while Mel B said her cheeks hurt from laughing.

Guest judge Kenan Thompson delivered one of the strongest reactions, calling Daniel the greatest comedian he had seen on a show like America’s Got Talent. The combination of the standing ovation, judge praise, and Daniel’s ability to make the competition itself part of his material turned Quarterfinals 3 into his biggest AGT performance to date.

What Happens Next for Daniel Alvarez?

Daniel Alvarez has advanced to the America’s Got Talent Season 21 Semifinals through America’s Vote.

After advancing through Howie Mandel’s Judges’ Callbacks and reaching Quarterfinals 3, Daniel delivered a stand-up performance that earned a standing ovation and strong praise from Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara, Mel B, and guest judge Kenan Thompson.

America’s Vote advanced Daniel from Quarterfinals 3 to the Semifinals, keeping him in the competition as Season 21 moves into its next stage.
