Geno Ploeger brought card magic and personal storytelling together during his America’s Got Talent Season 21 audition. The 21-year-old magician built his performance around sleight of hand and the influences that shaped his interest in magic rather than presenting the judges with a disconnected series of tricks.
Geno advanced through the Auditions and Deliberations, survived Quarterfinals 2 and the Semifinals through America’s Vote, and ultimately reached the Season 21 Finals. His final magic routine continued the layered prediction style that had carried him through the competition, and Geno finished second in America’s Vote as the Season 21 runner-up.

Who Is Geno Ploeger?
Geno Ploeger is a 21-year-old magician who competed on America’s Got Talent Season 21. His approach to magic combines sleight of hand with storytelling, allowing the tricks to reveal pieces of a larger personal story as the routine develops.
Magic became part of Geno’s life through his grandfather, who first introduced him to it when he was young. Geno was also inspired by former AGT winner Mat Franco, giving his own appearance on the AGT stage another connection to the competition that helped shape his interest in performing magic.
That personal approach became increasingly important as Geno moved through Season 21. Rather than separating his story from the magic, he used the tricks themselves to connect his performances to the people and experiences behind his career. The approach ultimately carried him to the Finals and a second-place finish.
Geno Ploeger’s America’s Got Talent Audition
Geno approached his Season 21 audition as more than a demonstration of card technique. The routine combined close-up magic, sleight of hand, and storytelling, using the cards to move through the personal influences behind his journey as a magician.
Instead of stopping after each effect for a reaction, Geno allowed the tricks to become part of the story. The structure made the performance feel connected from beginning to end rather than like several unrelated card tricks placed together for an audition.
That storytelling element gave the judges something beyond technique to follow. The magic created the surprises, but Geno’s personal connection to the material gave the routine its emotional direction.
The audition advanced Geno through the competition, and he was later selected during the Season 21 Deliberations for a place in the Live Shows.
Why Geno Ploeger Stood Out
Geno’s audition established a style built around close-up magic and storytelling. The effects mattered, but the routine worked because each reveal was connected to something personal rather than existing only to demonstrate technical ability.
That became even clearer when Geno returned for Quarterfinals 2. Instead of simply making the tricks larger for the Live Show stage, he built the routine around his grandfather, who had introduced him to magic and was sitting in the audience for the performance.
Geno began involving the judges with ordinary objects connected to the kind of magic he had learned growing up. The objects gave the routine a deliberately personal feel before the individual effects began connecting back together.
Sofía Vergara’s ring became one of the central pieces of the performance. Geno made the ring disappear while continuing the routine rather than immediately resolving where it had gone, leaving that question open as the rest of the magic unfolded.
Mel B then selected the five of hearts and marked it with a sticker. Geno followed that selection by causing the remaining cards in her deck to disappear, turning what had started as a familiar card choice into a larger visual effect.
The judges’ selections continued to connect with predictions Geno had prepared, allowing separate pieces of the routine to begin fitting together. The structure made the performance feel less like individual tricks and more like one story moving toward a final reveal.
The ending brought the routine back to the person who had inspired it. Geno returned the focus to his grandfather in the audience and revealed that Sofía’s missing ring was now on his grandfather’s finger.
The theater responded with a standing ovation as the final reveal connected Geno’s grandfather directly to the magic onstage. Rather than using his family story only as an introduction, Geno made his grandfather part of the payoff.
Sofía praised the performance for feeling original and personal. Howie Mandel also recognized the change from Geno’s earlier appearance, saying Geno had taken the feedback from his audition and returned with something that felt like his own magic.
America’s Vote advanced Geno from Quarterfinals 2 to the Semifinals, where he built another personal routine around going back to school while competing on AGT. Notebooks for marketing, accounting, world history, and economics became part of the magic as Howie selected the Jack of Diamonds, Sofía chose Chapter 15 from an accounting notebook, and Mel B circled the word “Future.”
The apparently separate choices came together through a series of reveals. The selected card appeared on a hat, a torn notebook page vanished and reappeared with one of Geno’s friends in the audience, and his friends eventually displayed a message about what his future could look like. Sofía called the routine flawless and funny, while Howie praised how smoothly Geno handled the choices and called it his favorite act of the night at that point.
America’s Vote advanced Geno to the Season 21 Finals.
In the Finals, Geno again built his magic around choices that appeared random before connecting at the end. Photos of Sofía, Howie, and Mel B appeared in a deck and eventually combined into a single image. Guest judge KSI then became part of another prediction, drawing cards that corresponded with a puzzle already assembled onstage.
KSI’s immediate reaction was to ask how Geno had done it. Mel B told Geno that she believed in magic and that he was magic. Sofía focused on how far his work had carried him through a competition filled with strong acts, while Howie said Geno’s desire to be there came through more strongly than anyone else’s.
Geno finished second in America’s Vote, completing his America’s Got Talent Season 21 run as the runner-up.
