Unitree brought one of the most unusual technology-driven acts of America’s Got Talent Season 21 to the stage by combining a human dancer with humanoid robots capable of synchronized choreography, rapid movement, and martial-arts-style actions.

The robot act earned four yes votes during the Auditions before returning for Quarterfinals 4 with a much larger routine involving robots and human performers moving together across the stage. Sofía Vergara awarded Unitree her Live Golden Buzzer, allowing the act to bypass the Semifinals and advance directly to the Season 21 Finals.

Who Is Unitree?

Unitree is a robot performance act that competed on America’s Got Talent Season 21. The act combines humanoid robotics with choreography, dance, movement, and interaction between robots and human performers.

During the Season 21 audition, the performer controlling the routine introduced himself as Flying Bug, age 26, from China. He entered the stage surrounded by humanoid robots and then demonstrated how their movement could become part of a choreographed live performance rather than simply a technology demonstration.

The robots became characters inside the routine as well. One was introduced as Jackie because of its connection to kung fu, reinforcing the martial-arts-style movement that became even more prominent when Unitree returned for the Live Shows.

Unitree’s AGT Season 21 Audition

Unitree’s audition began with Flying Bug positioned among a group of humanoid robots. Once the music started, the machines began moving with him rather than remaining stationary demonstrations of robotic technology.

The choreography relied on synchronization. The robots moved together as Flying Bug danced between them, creating a stage picture where the human performer and machines appeared to be part of the same ensemble.

The judges could see that Flying Bug was directing some of the movement through gestures. As the routine continued, the robots responded with coordinated turns and movements while maintaining the timing of the choreography.

The performance became increasingly strange and theatrical as the robots moved in ways the judges were not accustomed to seeing from machines. The panel reacted to how human the rhythm appeared even though the figures were clearly robotic.

The judges described the audition as freaky, insane, and brilliant while praising both the robots’ timing and Flying Bug’s dancing. One of the robots, Jackie, also demonstrated its kung-fu-inspired movement after the performance.

Unitree received four yes votes and advanced from the Auditions.

Sofía Vergara’s Live Golden Buzzer Moment

Live Golden Buzzer – Sofía Vergara

Unitree returned during Quarterfinals 4 with a routine that expanded substantially beyond the synchronized robot dancing seen during the audition. Humanoid robots filled the stage alongside human performers and moved through coordinated formations at a much faster pace.

The robots kicked, turned, dropped to the floor, recovered, and moved through martial-arts-style sequences while remaining integrated with the human choreography. The effect made the routine look less like a robotics demonstration and more like a futuristic action sequence.

Heidi Klum was on her feet and said she had never seen anything that crazy in her life. Howie Mandel called it one of the most amazing things he had ever seen and believed the performance could become one of the season’s most viral moments.

Mel B was struck by the realization that the figures moving through the routine really were robots and called the performance amazing.

Sofía Vergara admitted that the robots were somewhat scary, but she also believed the act was strong enough that it did not need her help to survive the vote. She then pressed her Live Golden Buzzer anyway.

The Golden Buzzer immediately changed Unitree’s path through Season 21. Instead of competing for one of the America’s Vote positions into the Semifinals, Unitree bypassed that round entirely and advanced directly to the Finals.

Why Unitree Stood Out

Unitree stood out because the robots were not simply displayed as technology. Both performances treated them as performers inside a choreographed act.

The audition established the concept by placing Flying Bug among synchronized humanoid robots and showing that they could move with enough rhythm and timing to become part of a dance routine. The judges’ reaction came from seeing machines perform movements they normally associated with people.

Quarterfinals 4 raised the scale considerably. More of the stage became part of the performance, human dancers worked directly alongside the robots, and the machines moved through kicks, turns, drops, recoveries, and martial-arts-style sequences.

The speed of the Quarterfinal routine also changed the way the act felt. Instead of waiting for individual robotic movements to register, the judges had to follow multiple machines moving through formations at once.

That escalation mattered because Unitree had already surprised the judges during its audition. The Live Shows required the act to demonstrate that synchronized dancing robots were not a one-performance novelty, and the Quarterfinal routine answered that by increasing both the complexity and physicality of the movement.

The judge response reflected that progression. Heidi Klum reacted to the sheer strangeness of what she was seeing, Howie Mandel focused on the scale and potential viral impact, and Mel B was still processing the fact that the performers really were robots.

Sofía’s Live Golden Buzzer ultimately gave the performance its competition significance. Unitree did not merely advance from Quarterfinals 4. The act became one of the Season 21 finalists without having to compete in the Semifinals.

What Happens Next for Unitree?

Unitree has advanced directly to the America’s Got Talent Season 21 Finals after receiving Sofía Vergara’s Live Golden Buzzer during Quarterfinals 4.

The Golden Buzzer removed Unitree from America’s Vote for the Quarterfinal and allowed the robot act to bypass the Semifinals entirely.

Unitree’s completed Season 21 progression through the Quarterfinals includes a four-yes audition built around synchronized humanoid robots and a larger Live Show performance featuring robots and human performers moving through dance formations and martial-arts-style sequences.
