Joe, a native of Mexico City, began taking art classes at five years old. His mother, a professional art instructor, was his teacher. His father, meanwhile, owned and operated a graphic design firm. His dad died when Joe was fifteen. At that point, the Castillo family returned to the United States. Joe graduated from high school in the U.S. and proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree in Bible studies from Florida Bible College.
Joe began working as a commercial artist and storyteller, and later he opened an advertising agency. He also got married. Tragically, his wife was soon stricken with breast cancer, and she passed away. At that point, Joe chose to forsake advertising and enter Kentucky’s Asbury Seminary.
Joe now delivers “Sand Stories” to audiences the world over. The Sand Story process goes something like this: As live or recorded music plays, Joe draws detailed images on a tabletop covered with sand. Audiences watch those pieces come to life on giant screens. Moreover, as he draws, he tells uplifting stories and imparts hard-earned wisdom. While these productions might sound simple, they are captivating and moving; spectators often cry. Joe is also available to be your Keynote Speaker.
