Captive the movie, starring David Oyelowo and Kate Mara, is based on a true story of captivity. March of 2005, Brian Nichols escaped a courtroom by shooting the presiding judge, court reporter and severely beating a female sheriff’s deputy to flee his trial for alleged rape, kidnapping, and assault charges.
Brian finds himself at the apartment of Ashley Smith, overpowers her at gunpoint and holds her hostage for seven hours. Ashley, a drug addict, has been given the book A Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren. Brian asks her to read the book aloud. Discussing their readings from the book Brian and Ashley find that they are both captive to their pasts and their regrets.
Captive The Movie and the Purpose of Life
Brian and Ashley both discover that life has meaning only when lived with purpose. Life does not transpire through happenstance, but opportunities to fulfill our purpose in this world by becoming our best selves in spite struggles and failures. Captive the movie uses the story of Brian and Ashley to illuminate the humanity within us all by showing us that our brokenness and failure can be used for the good of others and to the glory of God.
Leah Darrow has found her purpose. After being a fan favorite on Americas Next Top Model in 2003, Leah moved to New York City to follow her dreams in the fashion and modeling industry. Her success on the show made her a notable selection for an international magazine spread.
Scantily dressed for a career-launching photo op, Leah experienced her conversion. Her eyes opened to the truth that her God given gifts were not serving Him. She had exposed herself in an uncomfortable way. She had transformed herself into an object for men to desire and an enviable, often unreachable goal for young girls and women.
Leah realized at that moment that God had blessed her with great gifts of talent, beauty, an intelligent mind and Godly spirit. She knew at that moment that she had been aspiring to use those gifts for herself and not for others or the glory of God.
Speaking to youth, women, and to men, she speaks of her gifts and her purpose. She has blessed many with her testimony to God’s grace and mercy. She inspires youth to remain chaste and pure both physically and in spirit.
Leah Darrow has now become America’s Best Top Modesty Speaker. She engages her audience with humor, wit, and soul-bearing honesty. She radiates joy and brings laughter to the room as she shares her story of becoming part of the world for all it had to offer only to find that a life given to Christ gave her more than she ever imaged possible.
