Ever wonder why life is funny?
You and some friends are sitting on the floor laughing hysterically, life is funny! Your host is on his feet recanting and physically re-enacting an experience he had the other day while trying to start his car. With tears streaming from your eyes, finally able to catch your breath, you holler out, “You should be a comedian!!!!” Ross Bennett stops talking, looks at you and says, “Why? Did I say something funny?”
Ross Bennett takes you back to a time when life was real, and people were normal. In his slacks, jacket, tie and glasses, he amuses us with the life antics that we laugh at all the time, not manufactured jokes, cleverly filled with “bad words” to get a laugh. Just an era step ahead of bringing Laurel and Hardy to mind, not one or the other, he embodies both of them in one person! Walmart is funny, and life is funny! Ross reminds us of that! Growing up in the 60’s was funny! Ross Reminds us of that! Ross Bennett’s humor reminds us of all of the little things we have forgotten in this present age! We have forgotten what life is supposed to be and that it is hilarious… When you look back.
His comedy style flows amazingly, even when he seems to be pausing you realize, to late that he hasn’t, and you haven’t even had a chance to catch your breath. Explaining a thought process shouldn’t be funny, shouldn’t be. But if you smile or chuckle at the transition from joke to joke without realizing it was a transition, then the true artistry of the comedian has come forth and taken a bow… At that very moment your realize that they are writers. There is no way that Bennett is not a writer and only a real writer would catch it, but with Ross, even as you are catching it, you may lose it because he has you laughing again about being “normal”.
As the night ends and you are leaving the get together, you hear the words, “Come back anytime! No, for real, come back!” And, like planning to return to a secret hiding place with secret handshakes and unspoken promises of having some good, clean fun, you can’t wait for the next time and neither can he. Remember life is funny!
