Introduced in season 9 of America’s Got Talent, the Golden Buzzer allows judges to send an act into an advanced stage of the competition.
Throughout the seasons, there have been several changes in terms of the benefits it provides contestants.
However, the core of what that button represents remained pretty much the same: it’s a massive vote of confidence from the judges and a significant leg-up in the competition.
Here are four memorable acts from the show which managed to get that much-coveted Golden Buzzer.
1. Piff the Magic Dragon
In season 10, actor Neil Patrick Harris was the first to use the Golden Buzzer to advance comedy magician Piff the Magic Dragon in the competition.
To impress the judges, the comedian pulled out his secret weapon: an adorable little pup called Mr. Piffels. Together, they made magic happen on stage at America’s Got Talent, gathering plenty of laughs in the meantime.
You can watch the hilarious performance which convinced Neil Patrick Harris to use his button in the video below:

In season 13, guest judge Chris Hardwick pressed the Golden Buzzer for 14-year-old rapper Flau’jae, sending her straight to the live shows.
The talented young musician won everyone over with her authenticity, genuine personality, intelligence, and inspiring lyrics.
Here’s Flau’jae’s Golden-Buzzer winning act which contained an extremely powerful message about overcoming adversity and fighting for your dreams. It’s one of the most memorable acts from the show.
3. Johnny Manuel
In season 12, 32-year-old singer Johnny Manuel earned Seal’s Golden Buzzer with a heartfelt rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Lately.” What’s more, world-famous singer Seal went on to say that Johnny was able to hit notes he could only dream of.
Although Simon Cowell didn’t appreciate Johnny’s song choice, he, as well as the rest of the judges, shared their admiration for his soulful voice – recognizing Johnny as one of the best singers in the competition.

4. Paul Zerdin
The judges appreciated Paul’s memorable acts, original material, and ability to make it seem like his puppets are real characters that have a unique personality.
Actor Marlon Wayans was the one who pressed the button for Paul.
The guest judge was impressed by Paul’s joyful act which consisted of him performing with a baby puppet and telling him a story about Little Red Riding Hood (but with a hilarious twist).
