Penn & Teller: Fool Us premiered in 2011, taking live magic to a new level. The whole catch of the show is to see if the guest magicians can fool the masters Penn and Teller.
Since the show premiered, the beloved duo has been fooled more than they would like to admit.
But who are the outstanding magicians that fooled Penn and Teller? If you want to find out, keep reading this article to learn more about some of the top performers who have graced the magic stage and can now brag about their FU trophies.
1. Rick Smith Jr.
Rick Smith Jr has been perfecting his card-handling abilities since he was a child, and it shows. He is now a three-time Guinness World Record holder for throwing playing cards.
Because of his skills, Rick is the proud owner of a Fool Us trophy. On January 28, 2022, he and his partner Rokas Bernatonis became the first card thrower to fool Penn and Teller.
The two magicians have been working on their magic act online for more than a year since Rokas is from Lithuania. They only had 24 hours of real-life practice before appearing on the stage.
Luckily for them, everything worked out as they had planned, leaving everyone, including Penn and Teller wondering how they did it.
2. Noel Qualter
Noel Qualter is a close-up magician and a magic consultant. He is considered a veteran of the magic industry and an expert in performing mind-boggling close-up card tricks.
But to make sure he could fool the maestros of magic, Noel knew that he needed to present more than just a card act. That’s why he came up with a time travel trick, where he used an app to call his future self to find the chosen card.
His act was not only inventive but also full of funny sketches. At some point, Noel calls a much younger version of Penn and Teller, and we finally find out why Teller doesn’t talk. Even though they had to concede, as they couldn’t explain his trick, the beloved duo praised Noel for his trick.
3. Vitaly Beckman
Reputed as one of the most innovative illusionists in the world, Vitaly Beckman, a Vancouver-based magician, has managed to fool Penn and Teller twice on their hit TV show.
Vitaly conjured his favorite breakfast out of thin air by drawing a cup of coffee and a chocolate muffin. Even if the illusion looked simple, the beloved duo had to admit defeat, as they couldn’t figure out how he did it.
Since his first appearance on the show, Vitaly has traveled all over the globe, mystifying fans with his one-of-a-kind illusions. He was also booked for a limited, 16-week run at the prestigious Westside Theatre, the same venue where Penn & Teller started their careers.
4. Timon Krause
Some of the best magicians that fooled Penn and Teller have only done magic as a hobby. Timon Krause, however, prides himself on the fact that he knew what was his true calling since he was a child. He even published his first book on mentalism when he was only 16 years old.
To make sure he could do magic as a full-time profession, Timon moved to New Zealand, where he completed his training as a mentalist. All his hard work paid off when the young magician managed to nail his performance on the hit TV show Fool Us.
Timon’s routine consisted of asking Allison to place a coin in one of her hands and being able to tell which hand each time. For his final guess, he pulled out a prediction from his pocket that showcased Allison’s choices, implying that he could read her mind from the beginning.
