At first glance, it may not seem like a former runway model and a recovering meth addict would have much in common. That is just what Leah Darrow is out to prove in her appearance in the documentary, “The Story of Captive: Breaking Free.” This documentary film features the cast and crew of the blockbuster movie “Captive,” as well as pastors, leaders, artists, and speakers.
The film “Captive” tells the unlikely but true story of Ashley Smith, a recovering meth addict who is suddenly taken hostage by a murderer on the run, Brian Nichols. Both people are at the end of their rope – one running from a city-wide manhunt and afraid of being permanently estranged from his newborn son, and the other a single mother with a drug addiction that has robbed her of everything. When their paths cross, Ashley turns to Rick Warren’s best-selling book, “The Purpose-Driven Life,” out of sheer desperation. As she begins to read it aloud to Brian, they both come to discover the true meaning of forgiveness, mercy, redemption, and restoration as only God can bring. Their story is as captivating as it is inspiring and speaks to audiences everywhere on the power of God’s love.
The Story of Captive. How did God free you from captivity?
The documentary, “The Story of Captive: Breaking Free,” goes behind the film to look closer at the true events that inspired it and what has happened since. Ashley Smith speaks out about her experience, as well as pastor and author Rick Warren and several other Christian leaders. One of the speakers in the documentary is Leah Darrow, who tells her personal account of how she relates to the film, “Captive.”
Leah Darrow is a motivational speaker who travels nationwide to conferences, church gatherings, outreach events, and other venues sharing the gospel of hope and love. She praises the God who makes all things beautiful and in fact, beauty is a subject she is particularly familiar with. She has appeared on America’s Next Top Model and now writes her blog on truth, beauty, and love. As a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and redeemed child of God, she is on a mission to share hope in broken places.
In “The Story of Captive: Breaking Free,” Leah tells the moving account of losing her grandfather to murder when she was only twelve years old. She struggled deeply with God’s command to forgive her enemies when such a precious connection had been so brutally severed. The story of the movie, “Captive,” touched on many of these same emotions and she felt the film captured the struggle of forgiveness in an especially poignant way.
Now Leah is an entertaining and engaging Catholic speaker who specializes in women’s and young adult events. Her funny way of addressing some tough topics on beauty, love, and sexuality resonates with audiences while delivering biblical truth and godly values. She loves to speak on such subjects as how she went from top model to role model, women and modesty, college struggles, and her personal testimony.
Leah Darrow speaks toward freedom and forgiveness in “The Story of Captive: Breaking Free,” because she has personally experienced both. She is a dynamic and moving speaker with a passion for sharing God’s love with every audience.
